Join Our Devil’s Lake Hike: Explore the CCC Trail with Wisconsin Hikers – September 4th Meetup

It’s been a while since I’ve been out in nature, and I’ve missed connecting with all of you Wisconsin hikers. I’m back in the state and excited to start hiking again at Devil’s Lake!

I got many messages while I was away, and many of you suggested a meet-up. So, let’s make it happen! Join me on September 4th at 9:00 AM at Devil’s Lake. We’ll meet on the south side near the restrooms and hike a 4-mile loop up the CCC trail and around the lake. It’s a short hike, and we should be done by noon.

What to Expect on the Devils Lake Loop Trail

The trail at Devil’s Lake is beautiful but can be a bit challenging in spots. We’ll take the CCC trail, which starts with some steep hill steps. Be prepared for some workout as we climb up—the trail gets narrow and winds through rocky terrain. The total elevation gain is about 1,900 feet, so you’ll feel the incline. Use these coordinates for the up area (43.4109010, -89.7239350)

Once we reach the top, the views are worth it! You’ll get a stunning look at the lake and surrounding bluffs. After that, we’ll continue on the trail to the north side. The descent involves going down some steep sections, so take your time and be careful. Good hiking boots will help with uneven ground. I highly recommend hiking poles for this hike, especially if you are training for the summit.

Overall, this hike is considered moderate. It’s challenging enough to give you a good workout but not too tricky if you’re in decent shape and take it at a comfortable pace. We’ll be out in nature, enjoying the fresh air and taking in the views, so it’s all about having a good time and enjoying the experience.

A few things to remember:

  • You’ll need a state park sticker to park your car.
  • Bring at least 3 liters of water and wear comfortable hiking boots!

I’m also excited to share that I’m starting my training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this fall, with plans to summit in August 2025. I’d love to bring 10 hikers from Wisconsin with me! I’ve successfully climbed Kilimanjaro twice, and I’m passionate about this challenge, especially since people told me I couldn’t do it because we live at sea level here in Wisconsin. But I proved them wrong, and now I’m ready to do it again!

I can’t wait to see you all on the trail, share stories, and talk more about this adventure. Note: I only hike on weekdays when it’s less crowded. Remember to subscribe to my newsletter so you don’t miss any upcoming hikes.

See you out there! Feel free to send me any questions via Instagram.
