State game farm!

Who would have thought there was a state game farm hiding north of Madison, a small animal exhibit With interpretive trails and museums? We attended the storytime this morning; it was a great field trip. The ranger read an animal book, and we saw all the birds and a whitetail deer—an excellent venue for picnics and nature lovers.

The area is well maintained, and there are signs everywhere to guide you and the helpful staff.

The bear statue is next to the observation tower which is 80 feet tall, we didn’t go up the tower because Armani was in a hurry to see the deer across the fence.

This is the whitetail deer!

The exhibit’s very small but fun, you can see everything in 15 min

The animals are cared for as part of an educational exhibit,

We have learned that all of the animals in the exhibit were injured, orphaned, or raised in captivity and cannot be released into the wild. We are not allowed to feed animals.

It was nice to see an eagle very close!

This museum was built in the early 1880s near Grantsburg. Inside are images of Wisconsin’s logging industry in the late 19th century, then outside there is a Wisconsin selfie station, if you ever see one of those, get close and use it to take a selfie.

The state game farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center, the trails are all shaded, short, and toddler-friendly.

I highly recommend this farm to all families, bring your stroller, it’s paved most of the way. If you wanna learn more about this gem visit: https://dnr.wi.gov/education/mackenzie/
