Brunet Island State Park
About Brunet Island State Park
Brunet Island State Park is located in Wisconsin, USA, and is a 169-acre island in the Chippewa River. The park spans a total of 1,225 acres, with the majority of the land situated on the east bank of the river. The park is known for its abundant white-tailed deer population and the presence of sizeable eastern hemlock trees.
For the Dowd Family, camping is a thrilling adventure that goes beyond the mere act of packing and eating. It’s a summer-long journey filled with excitement and exploration. We’ve been fortunate enough to avoid trip cancellations, a testament to our luck as campers.
Our first camping trip took us to the stunning Cornell next to Chippewa Falls. This State Park is a true gem, offering a plethora of activities. I highly recommend bringing a kayak, fishing poles, and water sports gear to immerse yourself in the park’s beauty fully. Launching your kayak from your campsite is an experience you won’t want to miss. We were on site 66, but I suggest using a map to find a more exciting campsite.

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring the hiking trails. The tranquility of the surroundings was occasionally interrupted by the delightful surprise of wildlife, a treat that added an extra layer of excitement to our adventure.
Just a short 30-minute drive from our campsite was Lake Wissota State Park. This one is a must-see if you’re planning to visit all of Wisconsin’s state parks. We were particularly impressed with the bustling beach and the campground’s picturesque setting, adorned with a canopy of trees. If you camp in this park, you can walk to Lake Wissota; it’s gorgeous.

Driving to Cornell, we enjoyed the way; there were so many great things to see and do, so we stopped at Big Falls County Park, which has been on our bucket list to visit. It’s a county park, and you pay to park. Remember to pick up a map; it’s essential.
While we enjoy the solitude of cooking our meals around the fire, we also cherish the opportunity to connect with local communities and support small-town businesses. Exploring coffee shops, restaurants, and family-friendly breweries is a highlight of our camping trips. It’s a way for us to enjoy the outdoors and contribute to the local economy and culture.
This beautiful trip went well, and we hope to return someday. If you have yet to visit this park and would love to see it, we say go for it.
