The Ultimate
Drakensberg
Adventure
Not a tour. Not a race. A journey that revives you — body, spirit, and soul.
“I grew up 20 minutes from Tugela Falls. I went back in June 2025. I cannot stop thinking about taking women there.”
— Dini Dowd, Your HostThis trip will not
exhaust you.
It will reborn you.
This is not an adventure travel trip that leaves you counting the miles and collapsing into bed every night. This is slow travel with intention — the kind where you move your body, breathe deeply, and feel yourself becoming stronger every single day.
I went back to the Drakensberg in June 2025. I stayed at the lodge. I slept above the clouds. I watched the African sunrise. And I came home to Wisconsin knowing exactly what I was meant to do next — take women there and let them feel what I felt.
From the moment your feet touch African soil, you are taken care of. Every detail is handled. Every woman is seen. You will not feel like a tourist in a foreign world — you will feel like you belong there. Because with me, you do.
This is not just
a trip. This is a practice.
I travel with purpose. Every journey I host is built around something deeper — not just where you go, but who you become when you get there.
Mindful Hiking
We hike with awareness, not ambition. We stop when something moves us. We breathe when it gets hard. Morning yoga woven throughout — movement that opens you up for the day ahead, not wears you down.
Slow Travel With Intention
We are not here to check boxes. We are here to be present — in the landscape, in the culture, in each other. Each day is paced so you feel revived at the end of it, not depleted.
Giving Back to Community
I was born in QwaQwa and I give back to the communities I grew up in. School visits, local partnerships, and supporting the people who call this land home. Your trip dollars stay in South Africa.
Sunset Rituals
We stop for every sunset. No exceptions. There is something about watching the African sky change colors together — in silence, or in laughter — that binds women in ways nothing else can.
You Are Safe and Free
I have hosted too many trips to not understand what makes women feel safe and free in a foreign world. You will feel both from the moment you land. That is my personal commitment to every woman on this trip.
You Leave Reborn
Every woman who travels with me comes back stronger. Not tired. Not worn out. Stronger. Clearer. More herself. That is the WIA Adventure Family promise — you leave different from who arrived.
The Big Five.
In the wild.
This trip does not ask you to choose between mountains and safari. You get both — two full days and nights at Nambiti Private Game Reserve, malaria-free and breathtaking.
Big Five Game Drives
Lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo — in their natural habitat. Morning and evening drives guided by expert rangers and trackers.
African Sundowners
Stop in the bush as the sun sets over the savanna. Drinks in hand, Africa turning extraordinary colors all around you. There is nothing else like it in the world.
Luxury Bush Lodge
Two nights fully inclusive at a private luxury lodge inside Nambiti. All meals, select drinks, spa, pool overlooking the reserve. Rest earned and given.
Every woman
is welcome here.
I have watched a 72-year-old reach the roof of Africa. I have watched a 21-year-old discover who she is on the side of a mountain in a way no classroom ever showed her. Different cultures, different backgrounds, different starting points — on the trail they all become one thing: women who showed up for themselves.
Most adventure travel has too many limitations — age restrictions, fitness gatekeeping, unspoken rules about who belongs on a mountain. Not here. The only requirement on my trips is willingness. That is all I need from you.
Before you go — a personal one-on-one Zoom with Dini
I do not send forms. I get on a call with you. Before every trip I personally connect with each woman — to understand what you need, what you hope for, and how I can make sure this journey is exactly right for you. I have hosted enough trips to know that every woman is different. This call is how I make sure no one is left behind, overlooked, or unprepared. You will land in South Africa knowing exactly what to expect — because we talked about it together.
We don’t just visit.
We give back.
I grew up in QwaQwa, Free State, South Africa. The communities around the Drakensberg are my home. When you travel with me, part of what you are doing is investing in those communities — not just witnessing them as a tourist, but honoring them as a guest.
School Visits
We visit local schools in the communities around the Drakensberg — and because I speak 5 of South Africa’s 12 official languages, I am not talking through a translator. I am speaking directly to the children in their mother tongue. Sharing stories. Inspiring young minds. Showing them that the world is wider than the walls they see. This is built into the journey, not an optional extra. It is one of the most meaningful moments of every trip.
Local Partnerships
We work with local guides, local lodges, and local operators. We eat local food. We buy local crafts. Every rand and every dollar spent on this trip stays in the communities that live alongside the mountains we are privileged to hike. This is what responsible slow travel looks like in practice.
Choose your route.
Same extraordinary destination.
The lodge sits at 4,000 feet — the air is already different when you arrive. From here the Amphitheatre escarpment awaits. You choose how you get to the top. What waits there is the same for everyone — and it will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Chain Ladders
For the woman who wants to face her fearSteel ladders bolted vertically into the ancient cliff face. Your hands grip cold metal. Your legs shake. Your breath catches. Then you pull yourself over the top — and something shifts inside you that does not shift back. This is the route people fly across the world for. We do it together, one rung at a time.
Via Ferrata
Technical climbing — optional upgradeVia Ferrata — Italian for “iron road” — is a protected technical climbing route using steel cables, iron rungs, and fixed anchors bolted into the rock face. More demanding than the Chain Ladders, requiring upper body strength and comfort at height. This is an optional upgrade, not included in the base trip price.
✦ If you are interested in Via Ferrata, mention it on your one-on-one Zoom call with Dini. Gear hire (~R450 per person) paid directly to Thaba Adventures on the day.
You spend the night on top. Breakfast above the clouds. Then a massage at the lodge.
After reaching the escarpment plateau, porters set up your fully catered wild camp close to the cliff’s edge. Sleep above the clouds under more stars than you have ever seen. At 6am the African sunrise breaks. Breakfast is served on top of the world. Then you descend — to hot showers, to the lodge, to lunch and a spa massage that you have absolutely earned. This is what slow travel feels like at its finest.
Your 10 Days in South Africa

They didn’t stop
at the mountain.
Three Kilimanjaro expeditions. Women who came as strangers and left as sisters. They went to South America together. Europe together. They still travel together years later across continents and time zones — because what happens when women do something real together does not end at the airport.
Different cultures, different backgrounds, different ages — all of them reborn by doing something intentional together. That is what I build on every trip. Not exhaustion. Not a checklist. A sisterhood that lasts. A version of yourself you didn’t know was waiting.
I Want to Go to South AfricaI have hosted
enough trips to know
exactly what you need.
I grew up in QwaQwa, Free State — 20 minutes from Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge. I moved to Wisconsin, built a life, and spent the last four years hosting women-only adventures because I believe there is nothing more transformational than a woman going somewhere wild and coming back more herself.
I speak 5 of South Africa’s 12 official languages. That is not a detail — it is a door. It means when we visit local communities and schools, I am not translating through a guide. I am talking directly to the people whose land we are privileged to walk on, in their own language, with the respect that deserves. Very few hosts anywhere in the world can offer that.
I lead weekly hikes in Wisconsin for a community of 30,000 women. I have led three Kilimanjaro expeditions. I have hosted women from 21 to 72, from every background, on journeys across the world. I know what makes women feel safe in a foreign place. I know what pace lets you absorb rather than just survive. I know the difference between a trip that tires you out and one that sends you home reborn.
This trip is built on everything I have learned. And before you land in South Africa, we talk — one on one, on a Zoom call — so I know exactly who you are and what you need from this journey.
