Copper Falls State Park

Copper Falls State Park in Wisconsin is renowned for its stunning copper-colored waterfalls, created by the Bad River cascading over ancient lava formations and copper-bearing rocks. Established in 1929 as part of a public works program during the Great Depression, the park offers visitors a variety of outdoor activities and a glimpse into Wisconsin’s cultural and natural history.

Welcome to our blog, where we’ll share our experience at a beautiful state park that impressed my family and me incredibly. The park boasts breathtaking scenery, well-maintained trails, and a lack of bugs or mosquitoes. Since we were on a road trip and short on time, we decided to take a trail that led us to the waterfalls. Despite our time constraints, we quickly devised our plan and parked the car. As we prepared for the hike, I strapped my baby onto my back while my partner Bryce changed into his hiking gear. Though the weather was warm, I couldn’t help but worry if the trail would be shaded enough to keep us cool.

The Copper Falls Trail Loop is a 1.7-mile family-friendly hiking trail with a waterfall. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on a leash. When we arrived, we spoke with the office attendant, who raved about the trail’s beauty and estimated that it would take us at least an hour to complete. Despite this, we planned to hike the 1.7 miles in at least 40 minutes. As we began the hike and reached the first part of the trail, I could already tell that it would be a fun adventure.

We love hiking and are thrilled to be on this trail. It’s beautiful, with boardwalks, bridges, the sound of waterfalls, friendly people, and stunning fall colors. This trail is also easy to navigate, as most people and kids will find the slate steps manageable.untitled-28

We were lucky to see the trees changing colors during our visit, enhancing the park’s already breathtaking atmosphere.

In conclusion, our impromptu hike at this beautiful state park was the highlight of our family vacation. Although it was not part of our original plan, we decided to stop and explore, and it was a fantastic experience. This is the real essence of adventure – going with the flow and embracing the unexpected. We’re grateful for the memories we created on this trail and can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us.

Love nature!

We took the 1.7-mile hike around the falls, which provided beautiful views of several different areas of the falls, some more dramatic with water rushing over the rocks.

We completed the hike in 40 minutes, even with a toddler who wanted to run around after we stopped at the waterfall. The trail is easy to navigate, so getting lost is OK. Follow the trail; before you know it, you’ll return at the trailhead’s beginning.
