Unlike other tourist traps, this Wisconsin park is a hidden gem filled with authentic history. It features expansive land on the river, historical buildings with impressive artifacts, and ancient burial mounds.
The day began with chilly weather accompanied by strong winds and rain, making it uninviting to venture outdoors. However, upon awakening, we discovered that the rain had ceased, prompting us to seize the opportunity to pursue exciting activities on our wish list before snowfall. We took the chance and were delighted with how the day unfolded. I was particularly keen on entertaining my little one, so we opted for Aztalan, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and brief trail. Our friends joined us, and we had an incredible time!

As part of the Hike it Baby 30 challenge, we completed 1.3 miles while enjoying the company of the most adorable toddlers. Upon returning home, I found myself curious about the Mississippian culture that once inhabited Wisconsin, prompting me to research on my laptop. Aztalan, a park with a rich history, boasts of Indian Mounds and settlements that offer an excellent learning opportunity. Although I regret not visiting the museum, I plan to do so next time.
The park features well-maintained trails for hiking, including those that meander among the rolling hills, Native American sacred burial mounds, and former residential sites, making it ideal for kids and families of all ages. To explore the park thoroughly, be prepared to walk approximately a mile. The toddlers had a blast rolling down hills and playing hide-and-seek behind mounds, and the park is also open to our furry friends.

Three platform mounds remain on the site. The largest is the one in the southwest corner of the fence; one almost as large is located in the northwest corner.
